Positive Behaviour Support

  • Behaviour therapy focuses on identifying behaviours of concern and understanding their functions so that strategies can be developed for the families. These strategies can help to reduce or eliminate the identified behaviours.

Whilst behaviours of concern can present differently for everyone, our therapists believe that all behaviour occurs because a client is trying to communicate their needs. As such, our therapeutic approach aims to develop alternative and appropriate ways for our clients to do so. This approach typically focuses on both behaviour management and building the client’s capacity in a variety of ways.

After the function of the behaviour of concern is identified, our therapists will then provide training to family members or other professionals so that the strategies can be applied to the target behaviour in the natural setting.

Our therapists can also provide an NDIS behaviour support plan to the family

A Positive Behaviour Support Plan is a written document detailing specific behaviour management strategies. A PBSP is typically funded by the NDIS under the Capacity building – Relationship funding for children 7 or 8 years or above.

Our therapists can help our families to identify behaviour concerns, understand their function, create strategies to manage the behaviour as well as provide appropriate training to the client’s family members and other professionals who will be implementing the behaviour plan.

Some typical behaviours of concern that our therapist can support include:

Physical behaviours (pushing, biting, punching, kicking, throwing objects).

    Verbal Behaviours (swearing, shouting, screaming).

Sensory-based behaviours (hand flapping, grinding body on objects, vocal stims, repetitive phrases, rocking, finger movements).

Anxiety-based behaviours (skin picking, hair pulling, pacing).

  • social workers support participants in connecting with their community and accessing the services they need.

Our social workers also support NDIS participants who have complex needs, or who are at risk of harm. We can connect you with support services, and provide advice and guidance on a range of NDIS-related matters.

We understand that social workers are often the first point of contact for people in need. We help individuals and families to cope with challenges such as poverty, addiction, offending behaviours, mental health, and relationship problems including child welfare and family and domestic violence. Our NDIS-registered social workers also work with schools, hospitals, and government agencies to ensure that services are available to those who need them.

In addition, our social workers advocate for social justice change. We work to promote equal access to education, employment, housing, healthcare, and other basic rights.

We are dedicated to improving the lives of others and making our world a better place for everyone. If you would like to speak to one of our NDIS social workers, contact us today.
